About the Journal

The Journal of Islamic Historical Review (JIHR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published biannually, in June and December, by the Program Magister Sejarah Peradaban Islam, Fakultas Adab dan Humaniora, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. JIHR provides a critical platform for original and interdisciplinary scholarship on Islamic history and civilization, with particular attention to the contemporary Islamic experience in Indonesia while remaining open to studies of other historical periods and regions of the Islamic world. The journal welcomes empirical and theoretical research employing diverse historical approaches and sources, including textual, archival, socio-historical, philological, archaeological, epigraphic, palaeographic, and material-cultural perspectives. Through methodological plurality and critical engagement, JIHR seeks to advance the study of Islam’s pasts and their relevance to contemporary societies.
